These are some more pics of the city in SketchUp- I would like in class to take you on a bit of a digital "tour" of the city- but may not be feasible. There is an interesting dynamic between the documenting of all art and the original piece (the main idea behind this work) which i feel is especially prominent in a work like this that exists not only in a different form from its docmentation but exists in an entirely different plane of reality.

Really nice city! The first thing I thought when I saw the aerial view was that i wanted to fly down and take a look around town. It's so fascinating to me to imagine little clusters of houses with little family clusters who go off into the world to gather in friend or co worker clusters.
ReplyDeleteI like clusters, and compartments. So I guess what I'm saying is that I'm really interested in this and I want a guided tour
This is very impressive. I like that you used sketch up to create your landscape. It gives your city a very digital feel. It reminds me of a city that might be in a computer game, such as The Sims or Sim City. There is a great sense of depth. The landscape is so intricate and chaotic, but is balanced out by the simplicity of the buildings the way they are all uniform in color and are made up of simple geometric shapes. Overall it's a lot of fun to look at.
